At the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena at Ratho, Edinburgh City Council commissioned Linea to replace all the existing tension wire balustrades in the atrium, emergency access ramp and climbing hall areas. It was essential that our new design remained true to the original screening concept – namely, a safe barrier that would also allow the maximum diffusion of natural light. In all, over 300 punched panels were fabricated and installed, each one individually manufactured to a specific length, matching the irregular spacing of the original balustrade posts.
The impressive building – the world’s largest indoor climbing area - is constructed around the rugged natural rock face of a disused quarry encompassing 3 large walls and over 250 highly challenging routes.
